Trojan Remover contains a comprehensive help file. To access it, start Trojan Remover and select Help → Help Contents,
or press F1 on most screens for context sensitive help. The help file is also available online.
Firewall / Process Monitor Issues
My Firewall/Process Monitor shows an alert saying Trojan Remover wants to create a service called TRDUMMYnn. Is it safe to allow this?
Yes. TRDUMMYnn is part of Trojan Remover’s rootkit check. It writes and deletes a dummy registry service entry to confirm access. You should allow this.
Kaspersky Antivirus shows an alert about a “hidden install” every time I start Trojan Remover. How do I stop this?
Start Trojan Remover. When the alert appears, add it to the Trusted Zone. In the Exclusion Mask screen, click the “Hidden install” message, untick Advanced Settings, and save. Alerts should no longer appear.
General
Why do I see the message “One or more files are currently excluded from scanning” after a scan?
This means you previously disabled certain files from scanning. You can review them via File → Manage Exclusions inside Trojan Remover.
Installing / Uninstalling
The installation screen appears then disappears. I can’t install or update Trojan Remover.
Some malware deliberately closes installers. The workaround is to run a “silent” install from the command line using:
"C:\path\to\trjsetup.exe" /silent
If that fails, try installing in Safe Mode.
I get an error message about a missing file when trying to uninstall Trojan Remover.
This usually means components were manually deleted. Download and install a new copy, then use Add or remove programs to uninstall it properly.
Malware Issues
How do I submit a file for analysis?
Please follow the instructions on the Contact Us page.
Why doesn’t Trojan Remover just delete malware files instead of renaming them?
Files are renamed with a .VIR extension to disable them, acting as quarantine. This allows restoration in case of false positives or analysis needs.
You can later delete them permanently once you are satisfied they were Malware.
Problems Starting Trojan Remover
I see “The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005).”
This is often caused by malware blocking the program. Workaround: rename rmvtrjan.exe to something else and run it. This should bypass the block.
Why do I get a UAC prompt every time I start Trojan Remover?
Trojan Remover requires elevated permissions to scan system areas. The UAC prompt ensures proper access. This is expected and recommended behaviour.
